"I love how people can simultaneously think the GOP is a bunch of idiots and at the same time attribute everything that goes wrong to them." I think most people who call the GOP stupid are doing so because they disagree with their policies. Just about everyone on this planet does the same thing when they butt heads with someone who does not have the same views. This would explain how someone can be 'stupid' and yet 'brilliant' enough to come up with devious plans to undermine the competition. A better analogy would be to look at Wile E. Coyote's attempts to snag the Road Runner. Some think the coyote is brilliant for the schemes he comes up with to trap the speedy bird, and others think he's stupid to keep trying when everything he has done has failed. It just depends on your viewpoint.

Is it that hard for conspiracy theorists to imagine that a GOP or Democratic politician does something stupid /illegal leading to downfall, that doesn't involve a politically motivated conspiracy? New York still has a non GOP governor, so if it was a GOP conspiracy, it didn't work so well. Spitzer's fall is his own fault.
