The Saga of Love Gov, Part 2 continues with Governor Paterson's admission he may have used a campaign credit card to pay for a hotel room, but charged it as "constituent services." Say it all together now: "That's some 'constituent services'!"
Paterson told the Daily News, "I do remember that there was a time I might have had to use the [campaign] card because my other [personal] card didn't work," but the News found "a handful of other campaign expenditures" where Paterson could have used "campaign funds to cover personal expenses and misstated their purpose in public disclosure forms." And check out how Paterson recommended a friend for a job with the NYC Department of Education; initially she was deemed not a "good fit" and then, after another call from Paterson, she was. Goddamnit, no one wants next-in-line State Senator Majority Leader Joseph Bruno as Governor!
The News found a "professional services" payment to Lila Kirton, a state employee who did have an affair with Paterson. The Post went to Kirton's home and found her husband, Randy Lloyd, ready to throw the trash, before yelling "Get out of here! Get off my property!" and throwing a trash can at a photographer. A Kirton family friend described Lloyd as "a big guy who understandably is going to be very unhappy about this."
But the best photograph of the day is the NY Times' one of a 17-year-old kid reading New York magazine's Spitzer cover story; sex education via the state, people.

politicians are all assholes. 100% of the time they are either full of shit, covered in shit, or shitting on someone.
I wonder what the reaction will be if he did use funds improperly. Hopefully, he will be held fully accountable and it's not glossed over as a "oh, that's what politicians do" non-story
It'd be kind of awesome if we just had a new governor every couple of weeks for the remainder of the term.
Governor Joe Bruno...gulp.
We need to start from scratch with ALL of Albany. No more Bruno, Silver, Paterson, and the rest of the incompetent assembly and senate. There should even be a new city picked for the capital -- "Albany" is really now more of a synonym for dysfunction and corruption than the name of a town.
Let me add that I have no desire for Governor Sheldon Silver either!
I think SNL's Fred Armisen would play a good Paterson.
A day without a Paterson post and a Spitzer/Ashley post?
No way.
I get it, its immoral. But I find that I am much more affected by say a president that begins a war than president who cheats on his wife. If Spitzer and Paterson broke laws, they deserve to pay as every regular man out here does...but in the light of our heavy problems, we really dont need to loose focus on what should really infuriate us! Iraq, Quatanamo Bay, Haliburton, the environment...etc etc. Who let the mortgage companies get so crazy..you know a handful of guys made an insane amount of money and now tax payers have to pay off these decisions. THAT deserves our anger and discussion.
"I do remember that there was a time I might have had to use the [campaign] card because my other [personal] card didn't work."
His personal "card" probably didn't work because he was actually swiping his driver's license. I've heard that normally blind people differentiate between credit cards by folding the edges differently.
Pretty soon we're gonna be down to the Governor's mansion cleaning lady as next in line.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a meteorologist because "they're always wrong." I really should've aspired to be a politician!
Give a job, get a job, just another day in Albany...
I find the whole thing dicouraging... the best part about this unknown becoming governor was the idea that he might be a breath of fresh air from the usual.
I guess in some ways, he is... most officials don't start off with a speech admitting "I DID have sex with that woman. And that one. Oh, and that one over there." But with affair motel rooms being charged as campaign expenditures, and intervening with jobs and in other ways for people he's banging on the side, it makes me cringe.
It's tempting to just write the whole sordid mess off as personal, but some of this does seem to be approaching, if not crossing, the line.
This is all starting to look like a plot by Joe Bruno to become governor.
this dude is blind and has had so man trysts already. what is his secret? how the hell could he cover it up too? he's blind! how did he know his mistress didn't leave her lipstick on his face? politicos are pieces of shit! I mean obviously, who wants to run for governor if it really was to serve the public good? The position of governor really means "power tripping demigod".
ok, this guy has turned out to be as stupid as spitzer, if not moreso.
did he really think his life wouldn't be investigated after spitzer was found out? or that people wouldn't investigate him after he admitted to the affairs?
this moron shouldn't be governor if he didn't see this coming.
(oops, i forgot, he couldn't see it coming)
Where will this story go? Surely these few instances of improper/unethical/illegal use of campaign funds and patronage will lead to greater misappropriation. In a few months when Bruno is Governor, he himself will be indicted by the Feds. This folly seems ripped from the headlines of a hundred years ago. Would Shelly Silver be next in line after Bruno?
as serpico said "When I come home, I want to come home to a clean house."
Do not mess with Italians. You piss off goombas like Joe Bruno you will get kicked in the stuggots!
OK, if it wasn't illegal, who really gives a sh*t?? That guy gets more ass than a toilet seats, kudos to him!
