I've done this every year since its inception. It's a lot of fun. It's actually a decent family atmosphere and it help get rid of some of the winter-induced cabin fever that's been building up! I have never heard of anyone getting hurt, and this year they are going out of their way to sign people up to help clean up afterwards (they provide the brooms, you just bring a couple of garbage bags). Last year I noticed a lot of homeless guys with brand new white pillows to sleep on. ^_^ I will be there with my cameras and pillow as usual, but I too am slightly skeptical of the large amount of people that are purported to show this year.

I'm so tired of whimsy -- Is there NOTHING better for these people to do? It happened in Seattle and no one cleaned up, leading to this brilliant story.

I never understood why people have pillow fights? Pillows hurt like a motherfucker! If you have a big pillow and swing it at it's apex height in a downward motion you can do some serious damage if you aim for the edge of an eyesocket.

Union Square is enough of a pain in the ass to wander around on a normal day ... if ten thousand people are descending upon it, count me the hell out. That said, I have nothing inherently against planned weirdnes of this sort, altho it's nowhere near as cool as that thing where everyone stood still at the same time in Grand Central.
