  • A sidewalk shed caught falling pieces of building facade in Brooklyn.
  • A Long Island dentist was arrested by Suffolk County police after a patient found Dr. Norman Rubin in "apparent distress." The dentist had been enjoying his practice's supply of nitrous oxide.
  • Toast to your own fabulous wealth with the world's most expensive 12-bottle case of Champagne.
  • The city's budget cuts mean the NYPD needs to slash 1,000 positions, which Commissioner Kelly says is do-able but "ludicrous."

City budget cutbacks mean NYPD will have to fire just 19 bullets into unarmed black men and not the usual 44.

The state Historic Preservation Office apparently is nuts. A lot of the people in historic preservation are twelve short of a six pack, but this honestly takes the cake since they are 1. a state agency, 2. ignoring the fact that it is a vital piece of transportation infrastructure.

Such idiocy among the historic preservation crowd isn't new. They put parts of the Bronx River Parkway on the National Register of Historic Places, which makes upgrading the road more difficult and of course makes it less safe all in the name of historic preservation. The case of the Woodland Viaduct on the BRP in Westchester is a prime example of this nonsense, which limited the functional upgrades and increased the cost of renovation.

Thankfully that kind of idiotic nonsense was avoided with the Kosciuszko Bridge. It could have been something that could have added millions of dollars to the cost of the project.

What sorta stoonad would wanna landmark the Kosciuszko Bridge? It ain't the Brooklyn Bridge.

And if you want to keep the cops, have the city shake down some of these companies. We call it protection.

Who the heck was trying to landmark the Kosciuszko Bridge? That thing is a disaster. Just because it's old and you remember driving over it as a kid doesn't mean it's worth saving.
