the Lauder family is wel known for their generous donations and often give hundreds of millions to all sorts or medicinal as well as public funds. this is a drop in the bucket for them.

There are many more reasonable causes to support than there is money to go around. Mr. Lauder should be applauded for donating to the Whitney, not criticized for not supporting your favorite cause. The amount of his gift will support up to 40-50 jobs at the museum. Plus, how do you know he isn't already supporting lots of other programs?
