READING: Cup and Pen Small Press Reading Series is back at Think Coffee tonight and presents: Emerged Writers from the Center for Book Arts letterpress workshop. Enjoy readings by Rebecca Alvarez, Emily Blair, Erika Jo Brown and many more. The series touts itself as being the place where "brainy readers discover new presses and emerging writers discover discerning publishers."
BENEFIT: On February 15th, jazz musician and producer Scott Harding (pictured) was riding home from a late night in the studio when his livery car was broadsided by a driver in a stolen car. Now partially paralyzed, Harding faces massive medical bills and, like most artists, is without insurance. Tonight an all-star team of musicians, including John Medeski, John Scofield, DJ Logic, Marco Benevento, Joe Russo, Antibalas, and many more play a benefit show for Harding. Those who cannot make the show can still make donations directly to the Scotty Hard Trust. – John Del Signore
MUSIC:Clare & the Reasons and Jaymay fill the Mercury Lounge up with their sweet sonic stylings tonight. We talked to the latter songstress about three years ago, and it's nice to see she's finally getting her songs out to a wider audience -- she was on Conan last week!
EVENT: Welcome Spring with the 33rd Annual New York City Spring Equinox Celebration. Join Urban Shaman Mama Donna and stand eggs on end in the middle of the night -- when the sun and earth line up in such a way that the gravitational pull allows an egg to balance. You are also encouraged to bring drums and some Springtime spirit!
