Staten Island Ferry Fish: Beautiful, Distracting

The new fish tanks at the Staten Island Ferry terminal have already prompted two complaints. But not the kind you think: The Staten Island Advance reports "two ferry riders expressed their annoyance that they missed their ride because they were too busy admiring the fish and didn't hear the announcements the boat was boarding."

Which means the $750,000 fish tanks are a success. And about the so-called fish death watch - only 1% of the 400-some fish have passed away, which actually a low number for such large tanks. Workers take out any dead fish at night and S.I. Borough President James Molinaro says there's one jokester in the bunch, "One fish lays on its side and looks like he's dead, but he's not really dead."

The tanks are at the St. George terminal.

Is that where the saying "He sleeps with the fishes" comes from?

I hope those people don't drive.

I went to go see this. Pretty neat. However there were two dead fish in the tank when I was there and I don't think they were playing because the other fish were eating them.

First time I've heard "passed away" used in a fish context.

Are the fish asleep in the arms of Jesus?
