<description>&lt;p&gt;Paterson appears to be our first bearded governor since Charles Evans Hughes nearly a century ago!  Hughes went on to be Secretary of State and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.  He lost the 1916 presidential election to Woodrow Wilson.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
