Chinatown Garbage Tour to Yield Amateur Taxidermy

200803hilln.jpgBringing together taxidermy, freeganism and art -- Nate Hill has created a not-for-the-faint-of-heart event called the New York City Chinatown Garbage Tour. Hill is an artist who makes new animals from dead animal parts; he explains his craft: "I sew together random animal parts to make a new animal that doesn't really exist. Many of the parts I have used over the years have come from Chinatown's garbage." Earlier this year he opened his A.D.A.M. Project (A Dead Animal Man), you can view some photos here.

He's found sharks, frogs and we're guessing many, many rats while dipping his hands in garbage cans around town, creating new life from the lifeless (see photo; more after the jump). Want to become a rogue taxidermist yourself? Head over to the SE corner of Canal and Lafayette at 9 p.m. next Thursday (3/27) and Hill will take you on a tour of the best trash bins around (more details here). He promises "a haphazard display of how to put animals together on the ground" and, of course, appetizers...so come hungry!

If you practice practice practice, you may just be the shining star at the next Secret Science Club taxidermy night. Move over, Takeshi Yamada!

I've met but also read about another guy who does this here in NY. He was walking around Coney last day of the season with a "Sea Rabbit." That would be a rabbit with aquatic bird flippers... funny.

saw another piece on this guy last week..he must have a good publicist.

there was a guy i knew who did this in cincinnati...really is disgusting and far from art...who is reporting this stuff??
