baloney. there are drunks and whores in Europe, same as anywhere. i grew up in Europe. my dad used to give me a small glass of beer with dinner since i was 10. i went to bars and ordered vodka when i was in high-school. by the time i came to college in America, i was beyond partying and drinking and only wanted to get education. all the American students getting drunk all time around me struck me as childish. mostly because they didn't know how to really enjoy beer, wine, vodka, or whiskey. they only knew how to get shitfaced. later in life, the problem is this culture of "working hard, playing hard", which translates to over-committing at work and making a mess of your private life. i think that the problem is that Americans in general just don't learn moderation. Spitzer is the prime-example of someone who wanted to fly to high and ended up crashing too low. if he did not push himself so hard at work and on all these "moral" fronts, maybe he would not develop this hooker addiction. do you think Sarkozy fucks hookers? he deosn't need to. he simply dumped his wife and married a model. as a politician, you can't really do that in America, so what do you do? you hire a hooker and hope no one finds out.

Bxbrian. They dont take you you any our of your life, you take them. Guess that most of us (at least, part) are working and reading this blog. In my opinion this story should be just an anecdote and not a big issue as it became. We shouldnt care with who they go to bed or not. Only his family should. In part, I even think that if he is a good governor, he shouldn't resign (quit). He is not the only one who does it (get hookers). And she shouldn't go to jail. society needs them as long as people are willing to pay for company (sex involved or not)

I guess it's just disheartening that we, as a nation and to a lesser part a state, can be so easily distracted by these sordid little stories. They take us out of our lives for a few hours a day, but, if left unbalanced by real news happening (the milestones and firsts that Paterson is creating in Spitz's wake), we really just numb our brains and cognitive ability to see what is news and what is "info-tainment" If it's not this story, it's some celebrity flashing her naughty bits. I just can't help but think that there's no meat left in this story--nothing left to uncover that really affects us (unless there's a lot of campaign finance laundering yet to be seen). I guess I just wish people spent as much time reading about this Jersey hooker as they did about the economy, and most importantly, the environment. That's just my opinion--if you don't like it, saying something rude and crass on the internet won't really persuade me. (not that you did nymichi)

Satyrist - I don't think you can generalize that easily. Everyone is different and reacts in their own ways to environmental influences. I am not puritanical nor would I imply to children that sex is "bad" (I was just being a bit facetious with that comment). In my opinion, more prostitutes probably grew up in broken homes and absorbing abuse. Then again, this is only my opinion, and I respect yours even though I don't agree. FYI - my sister lives in Paris, and yes, they do give their children wine, but they also seem to have a large percentage of teenage binge drinkers. It's just more socially accepted there. And seriously...I'm still wondering why she's not in jail!

Spitzer bangs a hooker. He loses his job and faces prosecution for the crime, and rightly so. Meanwhile, she's making more money than ever, seems to have no shame or embarassment about being a prostitute, and from what I read, people, including her family and friends, don't seem particularly bothered by her acts. Should we really be glorifying prostitution?? I suppose it's just continuing down the slippery slope from the celebrity of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan to celebrating outright hookers. What message does this send to our kids? Go to college, work your butt off and if you're lucky you might scrape by until your job is outsourced, or become a whore, be a celebrity and make millions.
