Yoko Ono is not going to be too pleased with this: it turns out John Lennon was quite happy during his infamous "Lost Weekend" period. The "weekend," which lasted 18 months (during 1973-75), was a separation from Ono, where he spent nearly two years with the couple's one-time employee May Pang (in both LA and NYC).
It has long been said that he was depressed during this time, but if Pang's new book of photographs, Instamatic Karma, is any indication...that wasn't the case at all. Though Ono is the one who suggested the two become companions during the couple's troubled times, getting a glimpse at how happy he was during the separation is sure to sting. And a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well her new book (following up her 1983 memoir, Loving John) is a 140-page collection of photos from the time that she's been keeping in a shoe box. As for Ono and Pang, the two only recently reconciled (in 2006).
Fun fact: After Lennon and Pang moved back from LA in 1974, the two rented a penthouse apartment on East 52nd Street. In this apartment, he claimed to have seen a UFO. When a friend urged him to call the police, he said, "I’m not going to call up the newspaper and say, 'This is John Lennon and I saw a flying saucer last night'". His friend (photographer Bob Gruen) called for him, and the police confirmed that three other people had reported a sighting. The Daily News reported five sightings in the same neighborhood. Where was Pang's camera on that night?

anything that pisses yoko off is ok with me. i don't know why i don't like her but i don't.
I'd Pang her.
WAAAAAAY hotter than Yoko. WAAAAAY hotter. Although she's looking a little rougher these days. Still much better than that warbling "artist".
Bet most of the readers here weren't even alive at the time...
;)
wasn't she on Howard Stern?
lennon was a true hipster complete with the white artists' yellow fever..i must confess i too am a victim...
id eat pang's pooper.
But he really saw a UFO? Who cares about Pang's tang. UFOs!
I got May Bangs 1st book in 1980's I thought she said all in her first book? Why didn't she publish the photos she kept in a box under her bed for 33 years in the 1st book? Perhaps she held onto them realizing she can make another book to get MORE money from John's name?
May herself confirms how unhappy John was with her in her first book "Loving John". She states over and over how John was drunk, in fact she gave John being drunk MORE publicity then the two Troubador incidents. In her book she states six examples of John going on a drunken rampage. May also states several times in detail how John beat her and wanted to end the relationship more then once. How can she carry on now like it was some great love affair when she in her own words described how terrible this relationship was?
Sorry, once you put something in print you can't take it back like it never happened.
