Yeah well I am black and I live in Harlem and I agree with the rezoning. There are elements on 125th street that I would love to see disappear!! That doesn't mean Harlem does not have to keep its flavor. I am performer and my boyfriend is a jazz musician. As long as certain institutions are preserved I say zone it up baby!!

I USED to live in Harlem. DEVELOP dammit. I hate this meme that says certain people should be "protected" from the free market. I tell you what tell them OK the city will artificially limit real estate prices on YOUR behalf BUT you now have to restrict YOUR buying power. You CANNOT shop in Bloomingdales, go to certain neighborhoods etc. It's ok when price controls work for THEM but they don't want it to go both ways. Guess what, America is a more desirable place to live than the third world BECAUSE of free enterprise not in spite of it.

I agree JDSX! Fact: 80% of millionaires are first generation millionaires. In other words they earned it.

I agree JDSX

It's a term of endearment when my relatives or friends call me a "rich bitch". Don't fault me because I worked hard and continue to work hard for all my money.

It's funny how many people in this country think being called rich is an insult. We're just a short hop from the hammer and sickle.

And it continues.....
develop, develop, develop.
though Harlem is hardly dangerous it won't have the cache address a lower Manhattan address would have.
see the bank leaving LIC even though the city gave them tax breaks. So, it will be another State/City office building because the private sector won't move in because their CEO/employees would complain.
I don't think this building will be near ANY projects, it's on 125th. now if they build it near Marcus Garvey park...

http://www.theonion.com/content/news/shitty_neighborhood_rallies

Shitty Neighborhood Rallies Against Asshole Developer

CHICAGO—Residents of the Carney Gardens neighborhood on Chicago's South Side are opposing an effort by asshole real-estate developer Royce Messner to build a godawful $45 million strip mall and condominium complex in the crime-ridden shithole they call home.
Enlarge Image Shitty Neighborhood Protest

Residents march to protect their beloved, execrable squalor.

The Save Carney Neighborhood Foundation, the most organized non-criminal group in this part of town, has filed a lawsuit in federal court to block the scheduled April 2008 groundbreaking. While halting the project would surely prevent a tragic urban-planning nightmare, it would also mean keeping the run-down, economically depressed community exactly as it is.

I say, keep Harlem dangerous. Let it reek of poverty. Let the dealers take over. Let it be a haven for criminals. Let's call it a black empowerment zone. Happy?

I think it will boost the economy and become a great place for up and coming artists, entrepreneurs, writers, choreographers, fashion and entertainment people.

It always has been. What a boneheaded statement.

What happens to Harlem remains to be seen. But the guy is absolutely right about one ling:
She is a rich, rich, rich horrible person. And a rich rich socialite.

Her appointment as head of planning commission is one of the worst moves Bloomberg made...she is a botoxed to death mummy who could care less about anything planning related, and simply likes the notoriety. What a waste of space she is.

the people living in the projects need to realize that they also will get evicted like stuyvesant town residents did.

Huh? I thought the city owned "the projects". The city didn't own Stuyvesant Town.

this should not be a surprise to the residents or anyone else. it was only a matter of time until they got priced out.
