I'm glad they start it earlier. Getting out of work when it's dark is depressing.

Without daylight savings time it would get dark around 8pm during the summer instead of 9pm.

Though I rather this country basically abolish DST and keep it standard time throughout the year.

The whole notion of it originally being for farmers seems dubious, since they were in theory getting up with the sun anyway, so what does the artificial artifice of timekeeping even do there?

Daylight savings time does nothing except shift power consumption to the morning, cause vehicle accidents, disrupt people's sleep cycles, and make politicians look like they are actually doing something to save energy.

A recent study in Indiana which recently adopted the idiotic time shift shows that power consumption actually increased and made the Hoosiers pay about $8 million more in power costs (ironically one Indiana legislator said it would save ratepayers $7 million annually), not to mention the environmental impact of more power demand and the loss of productivity of people who are adjusting to a new sleep cycle. You can find a the actual report here in pdf format. Also, a National Bureau of Standards report from 1976 revealed there was no energy savings.

The only people, other than energy suppliers like ConEd, who benefit from Daylight Savings Time are politicians who "solve" a problem by doing something that basically screws everyone over.

Duh Huh? Typical stupid governing body that doesn't really think.

If the time to cut off daylight saving time is based on daylight around the sun, so why do these idiots cut it off and revert to standard time on the first Sunday in November. Which would be approximately fifty two days before the winter solstice (giving them the benefit of the doubt.) Fifty Two days after that winter solstice would put the time to go back to daylight savings time somewhere in the second, or the most, the third week in February. DUH? HUH?
