Video of the Day: Manhattan in 1903

The Manhattan of yesteryear is alive and well on YouTube. Take a 3-minute journey down the Hudson River (then referred to as the North River) in 1903. The view you'll see is of the west side moving towards The Battery.

A treasure trove of old New York footage can be found here.

That was great. Towards the end of the clip, before it hits Cadtle Clinton, and right around the Lehigh Valley and Pennsylvania RR loading docks the ship with the camera floats past probably where Battery Park City is and just at the border of where the WTC stood.

Thanks for this clip and the link.

You really get a sense of the importance of NYC as a maritime center from the clip: liners, tugs, barges, ferries and even a sailboat. Dozens of piers, handling passenger boats, freight, connecting with rail lines. Great clip.
