200803hamburg.jpgART: In 2002 Hamburger Eyes xeroxed some pamphlets for what became the first of the crew's photography magazine. Since then "Hamburger Eyes has become an elegant yet underground periodical combining the documentary approach of National Geographic with the hit-‘em-hard sensibility of a late-night tagger." Tonight, in conjunction with the Spring 2008 release of their first book, The powerHouse Arena will display a selection of photographs (one of which is pictured) by the magazine's masterminds and regular contributors. The exhibit runs through April 6th; more info here.

Opening: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. // The powerHouse Arena [37 Main St, DUMBO] // Free

COMEDY: Did you know the original home of Caroline's was at South Street Seaport? Well tonight the @Seaport space is bringing comedy back! “On-the-Side” with Bryan Kennedy will feature some funny by Greer Barnes, Mike DeStefano, Bonnie McFarlane, Brad Trackman and Rich Vos. Get there early, space will be limited.

6:30 p.m. // @Seaport [219 Water St] // Free

THEATER: If you liked Emily Mortimer’s tightly-wound performance in Match Point, you won't want to miss her American stage debut in British playwright Jez Butterworth’s new play Parlour Song. The creepy three-character black comedy dives into the paranoia gripping an oppressively bland English suburb, where a demolitions expert becomes convinced his wife is stealing from him. In Ben Brantley’s rave review for the Times today, he writes that “the physical tension generated by the three performers is irresistibly theatrical… So is the show’s sad, sensual evocation of the darkness within comfortable, well-lighted rooms. It peels its characters down to emotional nakedness without ever violating the mystery of people who remain mysteries even to themselves.” – John Del Signore

8 p.m. // Atlantic Theater Company at the Linda Gross Theater [336 West 20th St] // Tickets cost $55

MUSIC: Get shut out of the Plug Awards? You can always watch the webcast. There's also a ton of other live music going on around the city tonight, and NYU will even open its doors to the masses. Akron/Family will be rocking the academics, et al, along with Megafaun.

8:30 p.m. // NYU E&L Auditorium [60 Washington Square S] // $5, call (212) 998-4941
