Last Night's Action: No Rest for the Weary

2006_11_sknickslogo.jpg

  • Magic 118, Knicks 92: If the Knicks can't get motivated for games when they haven't played the night before, what makes anyone think they would appear energized for the second half of a back-to-back? One night after losing at Atlanta, New York put forth a token effort and even led by five in the second quarter, but it then fell back to Earth and got crushed. Orlando's Dwight Howard dominated the Knicks -- who were without Zach Randolph -- inside, scoring 26 points and adding 22 rebounds. No, Eddy Curry did not have much limiting effect on the Magic superstar.

  • Canadiens 2, Devils 1: Say so long to first place in the Eastern Conference! At least for now, that is. A late power-play goal ruined Martin Brodeur's otherwise fine evening, and the Devils now trail the Canadiens in the race for the top spot in the conference. The Devils have only lost three of their last 16 games in regulation, but this was their third straight loss.
  • Flyers 4, Islanders 1: Someone should tell the Islanders they're supposed to have the advantage when they have a power play. Mike Knuble's short-handed goal -- which he didn't even realize he scored -- put this game out of reach. New York has allowed 13 such scores this season, most in the league. The Islanders face a quick turnaround as well; Florida visits Uniondale on Sunday at 4 p.m.
