Charges Reduced For Cop-Punching News Anchor

2008_02_lane.jpgAlycia Lane, the Philadelphia newswoman who punched a female NYPD police officer, was relieved after appearing at Manhattan Criminal Court today. The Manhattan DA's office basically dismissed her case, for an "adjournment in contemplation of dismissal."

Prosecutors said the female cop's injuries "were not serious enough" to support the felony assault charge, so charges were reduced to obstruction of governmental administration and harassment. Lane, who allegedly called the cop a "dyke bitch" during a run-in with plainclothes police officers in Chelsea, must serve one day of community service and keep out of trouble for the next six months and charges will be dropped. And Lane apparently already served the community service in Philadelphia, so New Yorkers won't be seeing her a la Naomi Campbell or Boy George.

Lane told reporters, "I just want to say I'm so glad this is over." Sadly, the tabloids don't feel that way. Luckily, her lawsuit against former employer, CBS affiliate KYW-TV, which fired her because "it would be impossible for Alycia to continue to report the news as she, herself, has become the focus of so many news stories," is still moving ahead.

I've run into some roided-up nasty motherf*cking cops who couldn't give less of a sh*t about the law or justice.

I can only hope they run into the same fate.

Terrific. If you are a TV anchorwoman, or well-known at least, you can punch a police officer, and call her a d--- b----. Hopefully we can codify this in the law texts.

Anyone who says "Don't you know who I am?" is a douche and most likely at fault in any situation. Especially if they're dating a hacky DJ.

oh yea everybody... I'm sure the plainclothes cop was acting totally professionally and was "assaulted" out of the blue by this dangerous woman. I know that the NYPD is always correct in everything it does and it's officers are always polite and courteous dealing with the public.

I think she's learned her lesson. That "dyke bitch" cop is going to think twice about even looking cross-eyed at a beautiful white woman who makes more money than she does as she gets assaulted. Justice has its limits. When someone asks "Don't you know who I am?" you better listens up.

she looks hot to me. c'mon anon, where are the noods? tits or GTFO.

I thought she was Hispanic? or Latina?

  • Polite New Yorker

I'm pretty sure this would not be the outcome if I punched a police officer and made rude remarks about what I thought of the officer's sexual orientation. Indeed, money has power in our court system.

  • JenChungsBaby

Are you freaking kidding me? She got off with an ACD for hitting a cop? That's nuts. It's good to be a pretty white woman with money.

  • Not James Frey

Did she apologize to the cop? Because God forbid anyone has to apologize to cops.
