SNL Returns, Fred Armisen is Barack Obama

Saturday Night Live is back! Wasting no time digging into primary season, the opening skit was a debate between Hillary and Barack, immediately answering the big question posed this week: who will be our Fauxbama? The answer: Fred Armisen! The Huffington Post raises the controversial points of this decision, given the previously-noted lack of minority players on the show (Armisen is not black - he's Venezuelan and Japanese - but has played Prince on SNL) and the whole "Is Obama black enough?" debate. As for the sketch itself, it was about the media's infatuation with Obama - and it even included Obama Girl!

A familiar face to the SNL stage, Tina Fey, returned last night taking over hosting duties. Her monologue focused on the reason the show has been absent for so long, the writers' strike. Steve Martin joined her, himself having hosted about 14 times. Watch in the clip below:

Other highlights were the show's nod to some Oscar noms, There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men. Yes, there were milkshakes, Friendo:

Mike Huckabee himself made a cameo on Weekend Update, but our highlight of that segment - besides Tina Fey's bitch piece - was Amy Poehler's mention of the lost and recently found in the subway cat, Georgia. Poehler reported that Georgia survived her 25 days underground "by hooking up with a hip-hop dance crew."

The only really funny sketch was Celebrity Apprentice. Lady Business was marginally funny and I like the Balloon ride commercial.

Didn't SNL used to be a little more "subtle" with their gags, like way back when? But hey, at least all the writers are back to work...

I busted a gut over the "Annuelle" bith control pill commercial.

saturday night live is really still on tv?

I actually think armisen is blacker than obama

The Daniel Plainview impression is perfect and the skit is kinda good, but there's no response from the audience. I'd bet that less than 10% actually saw the movie. As good as it was, the Anton Chigurh was that bad.

That milkshake sketch was perfect until Anton Chigurh showed up. Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are both destined for bigger things, I have a hunch.

OMG. A Japanese Venezuelan in Black Face! Who gets to be offended first?

I wonder who the main writers for the show support for the democratic nomination. Can't possibly be a blind following for Clinton. . .could it?

The Annuale sketch had me crying. Glad the writers are back, earning their .00385% of the overage after 17 days.

Berniegoetz:

Pretty much nobody. Sorry to disappoint you.

It was good to see them back. Tina Fey belongs on weekend update. The annuale commercial was funny. some I fast forwarded through. Especially the performances. The debate was good too. Please someone do Tyra banks. And in the worst way.

Fred Armisen is the worst. Keenan is terrible. Both are unfunny.

Lorne should pull the plug on the program, or take it in a completely different direction, though Hader and Amy are great.

One skit, was disgusting and offensive. It was a game show contest for a 1989 mazda and the title was something like 'What's that bitch talking about?'. The premise of the skit was clever and funny, yet its title was a gag line Keenan repeated several times. That was disturbing, unfunny, and outrageous. They should be ashamed of themselves.

When did SNL become so absolutely horrible... they should fire their writers.

Art Stewel: our nation's moral compass.

stop drinking that haterade!!!

the annuale skit reminded me of another period product skit done by SCTV. it showed catherine o'hara doubled over from cramps. classic.

Is it me or is Will Forte extremely hot? He seems to look better every season.

anyways..saturday's show was great! from Tina's defense of Hillary to the Annuale commercial, it was 100% hilarious.
