Last Night's Action: Two Birds With One Stone

  • Rangers 4, Sabres 3: Not only did the Rangers exact some revenge for their defeat in last season's playoffs, but they improved their chances of qualifying for this postseason. Sean Avery broke a third-period tie and put the Rangers two points ahead of the Sabres in the race for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Jaromir Jagr, Brandon and Nigel Dawes also scored for the Rangers, who have picked up points in their last six games -- four of them wins.

  • Devils 4, Islanders 2: Zach Parise's 25th goal of the season helped the Devils win this matchup of two of the NHL's hottest teams. It broke a third-period tie, and it helped New Jersey end a surprisingly long string of futility against the Islanders. It had lost six straight -- including the first five last season -- before Saturday's win. The Islanders had won six straight overall.

  • Nets 102, Pacers 91: Richard Jefferson doesn't appear to miss Jason Kidd. He dropped 36 points, made 12 of his 21 field goals -- and eight of his 10 free throws -- as the Nets avenged Friday's loss at Indiana. Don't look past Josh Boone, either. He had 19 points, 13 rebounds and made all five of his free throw attempts.
