Fatal Shooting at Sunset Park Restaurant

2008_02_taquerias.jpgThree people were shot inside a popular Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn ast night. The incident occurred around 9:30PM at Tacos 2004 Viva Mexico restaurant; the victims were taken to Lutheran Medical center, where one was pronounced dead (the other two are in stable condition).

Apparently two groups had been "exchang[ing] angry words" when one man took out a gun and fired. The restaurant was packed, and one witness said, "There were at least five or six shots and everybody came out fast, like it was rush hour on the subway." Another resident said, "There's always fights and things like that going on. But nothing like this."

The police are looking for the shooter, who fled the scene. They are interested in speaking to patrons of the restaurant and are also investigating whether the crime was gang-related.

Hipsters beware, this is still a neighborhood (and city) that has murders, robberies, assaults etc.... this is NOT Kansas! Welcome to Brooklyn.

I bet Joe DiStefano was at the place at the time.

the best name the could come up with for their resturaunt was "Tacos 2004 Viva Mexico" ? I guess they didnt have very high expectations for their resturaunt four years ago, or maybe they are very bad at planning for the future... either way, who wants to eat a 2004 taco?

I disagree. My brother moved to this neighborhood and everytime I've been there the last year there have been police cars and robberies and shootings and once there was a group of menacing gangsters in a car telling me they'd kill me cause I asked them to move their car for me to get out of parking. I was there yesterday when it happened too. The whole street was cordoned off and the perps got away.

Wow, this neighborhood rarely sees any violence these days. Shame that happened.
