Snow, Subway Switch Problems for Morning Commutes

2008_02_subtracks.jpgThe snowy weather is causing the usual commute problems: The snow accumulation is around 4-6 inches in the city, with more to the north and a little less to the south, and visibility is low for drivers. There are a number of accidents on highways and roads, and more are sure to happen later on in the day when the snow is expected to turn into freezing rain and sleet.

For some subway riders, there are some other kinds of problems to deal with: There's switch problem at Parkside Avenue Station and another in the Westchester Yard, meaning that the B is on the local between Brighton and Dekalb (so the B and Q are running with delays) while the 6 is running with delays in both directions.

Additionally, there's no limited bus service on NYC Transit buses. Check the MTA Service alert page regularly for updates.

So many things, new routes, more diversions, even less service at night to get stuff done...stuff that will make people very angry and thus will never be done.

I have to agree with all of you -- What actions can the city take to rehabilitate the subway before it gets worse?

It never ceases to amaze me how a little bit of weather can screw an entire subway system. (sigh)

I'm so glad I can telecommute via a VPN!

Went to sleep, clear outside, wake up and my first thought was "Damn, it's bright outside!"

  • a 100 years of worse weather and a little snow is stalling the trains?
