Breaking: Shooting at Midtown Starbucks

2008_02_starbucksmidtown.jpgThere's trouble brewin' at everyones favorite chain coffee shop. WCBS is reporting that there has been a shooting at a midtown Starbucks. The BNN confirms with a location: 120 W 56th Street, and reports a possible robbery as well. The NYPD are currently still looking for the suspect.

UPDATE: The shooting took place outside of the Starbucks and WNBC is reporting that the NYPD, based on preliminary information, believes the incident was part of a robbery. "It appeared as though the victim had just withdrawn tens of thousands of dollars from a nearby bank. The gunman apparently struggled with the man over a briefcase, and then shot the man in the back of the head." The gunman is currently on the run with the briefcase.

UPDATE 2: WCBS 2 is reporting the victim, Seton Ijams who works for Columbia Artists Management and is in his 50s, may have only been grazed by a bullet and/or pistol-whipped. Based on witness accounts, the AP reports the man was "dragged" down the street by the attacker. Also, Ijams may have been carrying more than $100,000 in cash.

The victim was taken to NY Presbysterian-Weill Cornell Medical Hospital, is in stable condition and is being interviewed by the police.

Lets see how many comments look like this:

He was probably mad that they forgot to put into his .

Yawn.

Suspect described as a deranged Baptist preacher with wild white hair, seen carrying a megaphone and leaflets!

Lets try this again...

Lets see how many comments looks like this:

"He was probably mad that they forgot to put _NAME STARBUCKS INGREDIENT_ into his _INSERT STARBUCKS BEVERAGE_."

Kinda loses its impact by the second try, TJ.

Let's see how many people post comments just to fuck with you.

a shooting in manhattan is big news. that happens like only 3 times a year.

I give TJ points for persistence.

I was thinking that maybe this was his way of protesting that all Starbucks are going to shut down to three hours on Tuesday.

ha to #2!!

I wonder if that was cash for friday's payroll?

Who pays in cash?

#5, let's not forgot that Inwood, East Harlem, and Washington Heights are parts of Manhattan.

He was probably mad that he got an _INTERNAL SERVER ERROR_ and had to repost his _LAME JOKE_.

it must be big news, MSNBC did a breaking news piece on this.

Does he have a race?

Really? Are we going to start live-blogging robberies?

If the victim was carrying $100,000 in cash, he was probably expecting to treat a friend or two to Starbucks lattes. If the thief came post-milky-caffeine, he may have pocketed some change, no more.

Gotta get your dough at the entrance, not the exit, Mr. Thief.

sounds like a classic inside job!

dumbass!

agree most likely a inside job, who would know this guy would be carrying that much cash!

@wnbc: why describe the suspect as a 5 foot 9 inch male with no reference to race? Totally useless. If he was 7 foot 1 then omitting race would probably be fine. Otherwise, why give details re: height without race --- just in case you see a 5 ft 9 inch guy so you know to avoid him?

Bad Boy Records aren't far away. While 100K is a pimp change for Diddy, Doofy, whatever, but his minions might be tempted though.

I seriously doubt that Bad Boy Records has any dealings with any of Columbia Artists Management's clients given that CAM reps the likes of Dennis Russell Davies, Michael Tilson Thomas and Kathleen Battle.

I guess it's big news because this sort of stuff doesn't happen in NYC often.

I watched this story on the news and I was a little surprised that the guy got away in broad daylight in the middle of Manhattan.

A bunch of tourists were interviewed and said "they no longer feel safe in New York."

XDDD lol

I'm glad to hear Ms. Battle still has an active career - isn't she slated for a NYC recital next month?

I'm putting my money on Mr. Ijams having been over his head in a 419 scam.
