Last Night's Action: Collapse!

2006_10_srangerslogo.jpg

  • Montreal 6 Rangers 5 (Shootout): It is impossible to believe that New York let this one get away. When Chris Drury buried his 20th goal of the year into the Montreal net at 5:03 of the second period it put the Rangers up 5-0 and appeared to turn the game into a foregone conclusion. But, Montreal battled back as Michael Ryder scored two goals in the second period to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Canadiens didn’t let the momentum end there and they dominated the third period, scoring three times and sending the game to overtime.

Montreal didn’t score in OT, but Saku Koivu converted in the shootout and Montreal sent the Rangers to their worst loss of the season.

  • Knicks 113 Washington 100: For once the Knicks actually pulled one out. Down 87-82 with just over three minutes left, the Knicks played some defense and made some shots to send the game to OT. And once they got to OT, they exploded, running off 23 points in five minutes and handing the Wizards the loss. Zach Randolph had 24 points while Eddy Curry only played 15 minutes. The trade deadline is Thursday, could a move be in the Knicks’ future?

I've been around hockey for more than 20 years and I've just never seen anything like this happen live. You don't blow a five-goal lead. You just don't.

It's utterly demoralizing.

Fucking embarrassing.
