GETOSAMA Plate Guy Rejects DMV Deal
The strange case of the plucky former NYPD officer Arno Herwerth (who is from Long Island, natch) and his GETOSAMA license plate has gotten even stranger. This time the man with “Kill Bin Laden” crudely painted on his American flag themed minivan and a habit of attending Smithtown board meetings in a chicken suit has rejected the offer of the DMV allowing him to keep his plates, since they would not pay his legal fees.
Herwerth’s stance sounds somewhat reasonable, but his lawyer worked pro bono. So he wants the DMV to instead take that money and donate it to the 9-11 response worker support group the FealGood Foundation.
He remains optimistic, telling Newsday, "I feel they will comply on the whole thing. They already know it's a losing battle." Of course the DMV remains silent, since they cannot discuss ongoing litigation.
You may also remember Herwerth’s other quest - to have a 9-11 commemorative license plate available to all New Yorkers as several other states do. He hands out leaflets at DMV offices trying to get people to support the idea. No word if he does that dressed as a chicken, but he apparently has a history of playing dress up.

I thought vanity plates were printed flat not with embossed letters.
They are flat.
The plate pictured is an illustration, since you can't get a question mark on a vanity plate!
Like in real life, embossed plates look better and more license plate like than flat plates.
my parents have an embossed vanity plate
That VA plate scares me. I would want to be labeled a terrorist in Virginia...they might chase me with pitchforks...Oh and wait, they had a World Trade Center that got destroyed on Sept. 11th in Virginia too???
Oh and wait, they had a World Trade Center that got destroyed on Sept. 11th in Virginia too??? yes. we all did.
Texas also uses the same logo as Virginia. The Texas DMV site is closed at the moment, but you can find a photo here.
You can get your own sample for $10 or personalized souvenir Virginia plate for just $20 which you can put almost any ironic or otherwise charged 5 characters.
