subway love, by presley at flickr
- Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a truck into scaffolding on West 39th St. and Broadway in Manhattan, a bank robbery at the HSBC branch on 33rd St. and Park Ave. in Manhattan, and a double shooting on East 57th St. and Ave. D in Brooklyn.
- The $8 million Jean-Michel Basquiat painting "Hannibal", which was smuggled out of Brazil, was located at a Manhattan warehouse on 61st St. and 2nd Ave.
- A man walked into a Newark precinct house yesterday afternoon and calmly told an offer he just killed three people. Rakeem Gartrell apparently stabbed his girlfriend to death during a domestic dispute and then did the same to her parents.
- Lost City takes a look at the current state of what used to be known as Tin Pan Alley.
- Sex sage Dan Savage is pissed that the Post identified the man who almost died at the Nutcracker Suite during a bondage mishap, since the man is not a public figure, broke no laws, and isn't going to be charged with a crime. He wants anyone who has knowledge of any Post or News Corp. exec who enjoys anything other than plain-vanilla intercourse to speak up and publicly expose that person's private life.
- Puppy love: the Pedigree Dogstore in Times Square, which promotes the adoption of homeless dogs, was the location of a mixer last night for dog owners looking for more than canine companionship. The Animal Fair magazine-hosted event was called Yappy Hour.
- The Ecuadorian construction worker who killed Adrienne Shelley in her apartment and then staged a scene to make it look like a suicide, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and will be sentenced to 25 years in prison.
- The New Yorker runs a photo essay on Coney Island and the confluence of kitsch and nostalgia.

Kathleen woke up on the subway platform to find Joe missing, except for a note.
(Strains of "The Way Were" start to play in the background.)
