The Way to One's Heart is Through His/Her Stomach

candyheart1.jpgOr so they say. Well, maybe, maybe not, but regardless, we wanted to give you some options for food and drink-related events on Valentine's Day.

Targeted at those out there for whom Valentine's Day is not a welcome occasion, the Sunburnt Cow is having a "No Love at the Cow" party. $25 gets you all you can drink, beer, wine and “Anti-Love” juice, plus a "1980s style disco experience," complete with an ice slide for shots (eek!). You can have a $16 meal at the counter with your choice of appetizer, entree, and dessert just in case you need something to soak up all that booze. 137 Avenue C between 8th & 9th Streets.

Chocolate and Valentine's Day have long gone hand in hand. This year, as part of their month-long hot chocolate festival, City Bakery is serving up all of their killer hot chocolate that you can drink, along with nibbles and drinks from Saxelby Cheesemongers, Rick's Picks, Chocolat Moderne, Bottlerocket Wine & Spirits, and Tuthilltown Distillery. Who's to say that pickles and cheese aren't as romantic as chocolate? Depends on your personal taste. 7:30 - 10:00 p.m., 3 West 18th Street. $45 per person, tickets available online. (purchase tickets online).

If you've got cash to spare, head to the Astor Culinary Center for the utmost in luxury -- a five course foie gras tasting menu paired with a vertical tasting of eight vintages of Château d'Yquem. Yours for a mere $1295.00 (for two). 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Tickets and more information online.

Or you can go the cheap route. 67 Wine and Spirits will be giving out free red velvet cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery and tastings of sparking wines from Iron Horse Vineyard. 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., 179 Columbus Avenue at West 68th Street.

KINGS CUISINE

I (heart) New York,
Work and play,
Especially on
Valentine's Day

And (heart) the eats
In tasty Brooklyn,
Where the finest chefs
Have moved their cooklin'.
