Clemens vs. McNamee - Round 1

After a morning of denials and denouncements at a hearing in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform one thing is clear, Brian McNamee and Roger Clemens deserve each other. As Chairman, Henry Waxman, made clear at the start of the proceedings this morning one of them is lying and based on the testimony so far it seems like Clemens is.
Start with the depositions of Chuck Knoblauch and Andy Pettitte who both verified Brian McNamee’s testimony, with Pettite admitting to further HGH use than he previously apologized for. Clemens expressed shock that Pettitte used HGH and said that Andy must have “misunderstood” him because Pettitte claimed in his testimony that he had discussed HGH with Clemens. Clemens was also caught in a lie when it was pointed out that he told the Mitchell Report that he had never spoke to McNamee about HGH use but then subsequently admitting he had when he discussed his wife’s use of it.
Interestingly, the committee seemed to break down across party lines in terms of which side they believed. For the most part, the Democrats seemed to believe McNamee, while the Republicans seemed to believe Clemens. Could this be because Texas is a red state?
The most interesting exchange took place between Chairman Waxman and Clemens when they discussed how Congress had asked for contact information for a nanny who supposedly attended a party at Jose Canseco’s house in 1998. Not only did Clemens take some time to provide Congress with that information, he also invited the nanny to his house this past Sunday. When Congressman Waxman pointed out how this appeared to be tampering with a witness, both of Clemens’ lawyers jumped up and tried to intervene while Clemens merely said that he thought, “I was doing y’all a favor by finding her”.
A lot of the morning was consumed by an investigation into a palpable mass on Clemens’ buttocks. Hopefully, the afternoon session will move on from that.

clemens is such a fucking scumbag. It's funny how all the guys hating on barry bonds have now come to Roger clemens side. what the hell was up with that congresswomans exclamation that "roger will go to heaven"? this trial is fruitloops. the only one telling the truth is Pettite, his "I need to tell the truth before I get to heaven" is damning to hell on clemens.
It's hard to believe Clemens when Knoblauch and Pettitte have already backed up McNamee's stories about them. Why would he tell the truth about those two yet lie about Clemens?
I'll give Clemens credit for one thing: he's wearinig a nicer suit than McNamee. Probably because he has more money than god. In fact, that's probably why the Republicans seem to be on his side instead of McNamee's.
clemens is another big fat phoney.
of course, you knew it would be politically divided.
why? I have no friggin idea.
I'm looking at Mcnamee's expression while clemens is testifying, very interesting.
ATTENTION DRUG
Roger Clemens, he took those drugs--
Did he or di'n't he?
If House members shine on TV,
Who's next--Britney?

This is such a non-story. The only real story is why on earth is congress investigating this? They don't have more important things to look into?
Of course Congress doesn't have more important things to look into. This diversion is exactly what they want America looking at while they pull off some new scheme to rob the taxpayers while building their own coffers. It's the way things are done now. Fact: the $600 individual tax rebate that everyone is getting comes on the heels of, get this, $600 extra being taken away from your paychecks this past year. If you haven't done your taxes, do them and confirm this. Funny how convenient that is, huh?
Why do we care about Clemens or Britney or Winehouse when things are so fucked up EVERYWHERE? Because the media tells us to.
Sure this matters, because a lot of kids are taking this junk. Only 1 out of every minor leaguer gets to the majors. Most kids won't get that far. But, they will take steroids for that long shot. And some of them will die.
"It's for the children" is an overused cliche, but it's true in this case.
dunno bout you but we didn't have any little league where I grew up. it was in the more affluent areas.
and with condos replacing parks and the many myriads of bureaucracy in procuring some ball field time, it will still be a non issue in this city.
and, clemens is a big fat phoney.
Why should anybody take the word of a former cop who dealt in illegal drugs, who has acknowledged that he broke the law by dealing illegal drugs, and who has shown behavior that is, quite frankly, just this side of paranoia? It baffles me how so many people in this country are rushing to the defense of a guy who has clearly committed illegal, questionable, and ethically dubious actions.
Ans anyone who thinks Chairman Waxman wasn't gunning for Clemens and looking for ways to trash this guy publicly is willfully ignoring the plain truth.
Do I believe Clemens? Yeah, I do. Why? I have yet to hear or see any clear cut proof that he himself doped. Petite corroborating one statement of McNamee's is nowhere near swinging the balance of credibility back over to McNamee's side.
all these republicans believing clemens, and they blame the government, the same government they voted bush into office. Neocons are so fucking scary the way they think.
You mean the NYPD doesn't store evidence in crushed beer cans?
