Road Rage in Red Hook

2008_02_landrover.jpgYesterday, the Post reported about a strange and disturbing road rage incident in Red Hook last week. A woman was ultimately repeatedly hit by the driver of a Land Rover.

According to police sources, on Thursday afternoon, the woman got out of her car to speak with 63-year-old Jeffrey Klempner, who was in his SUV at Columbia Street and Atlantic Avenue, "to talk to him about an earlier collision." Klempner "denied any wrongdoing," but when the woman walked towards a patrol car, he "allegedly" drove into her and hit her four times "at a slow speed." Police arrested him for assault and reckless driving. The woman was treated for bruises at Long Island College Hospital.

The NY State Police differentiates road rage ("using the vehicle as a weapon or physically assaulting a driver or their vehicle") and aggressive driving (operating "a motor vehicle in a selfish, bold or pushy manner, without regard for the rights or safety of the other users of the streets and highways"). Specifically, road rage is a criminal offense. The State Police even had road rage vans at one point.

Last October, an off-duty police officer killed another driver in a road rage incident in East Harlem, and in November, a cab driver was killed in an apparent road rage incident on the Upper East Side.

I am this ass hole's neighbor. HE DESERVES EVERYTHING THROWN AT HIM!

He lives in the apartments above the Fairway, he curses at people, very inconsiderate, tries to run people over his cheap dented LAND ROVER (he wishes he had a range rover).

He has been charged with Vehicular Assault and FELONY assault.

This dumb-ass did this in front of police too where the police was telling him to stop and he wouldn't.

    S-T-U-P-I-D!!

Can't wait to see what happens to this asshole!

    Naming Red Hook...

It depends on what map you look at and from what year. And it also depends on how the real estate industry spins it.

In the recent photo project What's the Hook? The bounderies were defined as follows...

"Red Hook is bordered by Hamilton Av to the north, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to the east, the Gowanus Canal , and Erie Basin to the south, and the New York Harbor to the west."

The Post should invest in a map of Brooklyn before they decide to name the neighborhood. It wasn't Red Hook, but the waterfront border separating Cobble Hill from Brooklyn Heights. Yeesh.

Also, that is a Range Rover, and approximately a $20,000 difference in price. Don't be so classist.

Columbia & Atlantic is definitely not Red Hook.
