Pencil This In

2008_02_creamster.jpgMOVIE: If you've never seen anything from Matthew Barney's Cremaster series, then cancel all plans tonight because you've got new ones. Barney's Cremaster 2 is screening tonight (no need to see these films in order), and you will be visually dazzled. While it's not plot-heavy, the Guggenheim describes it as "a gothic Western that introduces conflict into the system."

8pm // Austrian Cultural Forum [11 East 52nd St] // Free

THEATER: Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 black and white spy thriller The 39 Steps has been given an inspired stage adaptation by a troupe of four British actors who’ve brought their madcap show to Broadway after an award-winning run on the West End. With half of the cast playing an innumerable number of characters – often switching in and out of costumes several times a minute – the show is as marvelous to watch for its ingenuous staging as it is for its espionage storyline. In an article for the Times, Alexis Soloski learns just how two of the cast members, who play dozens of roles, manage their miraculous quick-changes. – John Del Signore

8pm // American Airlines Theatre [227 West 42 St.] // Ticket prices vary. –

MUSIC: One of our favorite New York bands for a few years now, The Epochs, are going to rock the Mercury Lounge room tonight. Check out their new video the song "Love Complete," below, then go see them tonight! (The band Senator follows their set.):

9pm // Mercury Lounge [217 E Houston St] // $10
