Brooklyn's Newest Export: Babies?

200802paltrowkids.jpgLast we checked in on Gwyneth Paltrow she was being wheeled into Mount Sinai Hospital for what ended up being a "gastrointestinal situation." Bouncing back quickly, she was at a UNICEF event last week where she dropped the bomb about a new bambino:

“People who have a lot also often feel like they have a lot to give. I have a good friend who always says that if you’re a person of means at all, then you have to adopt because there are so many kids in the world who need homes.

We might get one from Brooklyn. No baby is more helpless than another baby. And I'm a New York girl."

No word on when Gwyneth will go window shopping in Park Slope for the latest Apple in the bushel.

"BOUNCing back quickly"

Please don't evoke memories of terrible, terrible movies (Especially with Gwyneth Paltrow & Ben Aflake). Its not nice.

ugh, babies don't do nothin for no one. welfare pimps, they is.

New York girl? I thought she's Brit?

I might suggest checking Union Hall for the latest and greatest.

Does Brooklyn have a glut of orphans? Will the Bronx do or must it specifically be from Brooklyn? Odd, but a nice sentiment nonetheless.

Insider information bout her
Gastrointestinal Situation

Diarrhea ...diarrhea...cha cha cha

"No baby is more helpless than another baby."

For a minute I thought I contracted a reading disability.
Does anyone know what the fuck that means?

Uh yeah- she means- a brooklyn baby needs love just as much as one from angola or darfur.

No baby is more or less helpless than any other one.

and

I agree- my wife and I are considering adoption to expand our family as well, and I think I want a NY baby first- why go elsewhere, when kids are needy here?

Well, gwyneth, I may not be so rich that i feel entitled to euphemize the situation, nevertheless i AM a "person of means" - in fact I'd like to kick you in the nuts by means of my leg and foot.

Lovey Howell was a cCHARACTER you dopey bitch.

"No baby is more helpless than another baby."

it sounds like she thinks adopting babies from africa is just something that madonna & angelina do because it's trendy. in other words: there are plenty of helpless babies here in nyc.

Leave her alone. She can buy a baby anywhere she wants. Its a free country.

I'm going to get my next baby from Amazon.

Not the Amazon....from Amazon.

explain to me how a celebrity promoting the idea of domestic adoption is bad? no matter how shallow her comments may seem out of context, you know that kid will grow up to be some sort of actor/director/producer and you will go see their movies and adore/make fun of them too.

p.s. she really is from NYC, unlike most people who probably read this site.

You're probably right about the baby growing up to be an actor/director/producer. After all, Gwyneth herself is only in show business because of her actor/director/producer parents and her "uncle" -- Steven Spielberg -- who cast her in her first movie role.

ladywarfield, not that I really care, but I was curious to know which neighborhood she grew up in. According to the ever accurate wikipedia she's a California girl but attended a boarding school in NYC for an undetermined period of time. I guess technically "from NYC" can be true, but I wouldn't describe her as a true born and bred NYer.

Just sayin' yo.

If Gwyneth really wants to adopt a baby locally, she will need all her money and star power to arrange a private adoption. If she lines up with all the other well-off New York Caucasian couples seeking to adopt a baby, she will soon learn that the only babies (or, for that matter, toddlers) available are minorities, and that transracial adoption is frowned upon by the social service bureacracies even when they can't place kids readily in same-race homes. (Some years ago, a black social workers' group famously called it "cultural genocide.") If our maternally inclined blonde actresses catch hell for adopting from Africa, I hate to think what they'd face in Brooklyn! A search of waitlisted children free for adoption will, however, reveal that there are plenty of older children, particularly boys and kids with disabilities, awaiting their forever homes, and their chances of adoption are so low that even the agencies shut up about the transracial angle. Sadly, I doubt these are the kids that Gwyneth has in mind.

Yes, as other commenters have pointed out, their are no babies waiting around to be adopted.

There are almost 17,000 NYC children currently in Foster Care. Many of these children are freed for adoption. If you or someone you know would like to be a foster or adoptive parent you can call 311 or (212) 676-WISH. As Brenda stated, most of the children are of color, older, or have special needs. But they need families too. The ACS Family Album can be viewed on-line so that interested community members can see who these children are. Many of them are profiled on Wednesdays's Child and through various other outreach efforts.

Let her adopt a 15 year old autistic child.

She should adopt Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's black adoptees.

Apparently Suri has never met them and they can't get visas to follow "Mom" to Australia!!!

btw Zodak, when gwyneth says this:"I have a good friend who always says that if you’re a person of means at all, then you have to adopt because there are so many kids in the world who need homes." - the good friend is Madonna. Any child that gwyneth adopts would be forced to eat bark and listen to shitty music a lot courtesy of their "dad"- maybe Africa would be preferable?

of course she could always just adopt amy winehouse and rename her "Pip"...
