This afternoon was the parade celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year; it's the Year of the Rat. Chinatown in Manhattan is one of the earliest concentrations of Chinese people in the United States. After the jump are more early pictures of the parade.

They can shutdown 5th Avenue in the middle of the day for the Columbus Day and St. Patrick's Day parades. They can shut down 6th Avenue for the Puerto Rican Day parade.

THEY CAN'T FREAKIN'

YET THEY CAN'T FREAKIN' SHUT DOWN THE BOWERY FOR 2 HOURS ON A SUNDAY!

It was an embarrasment for NYPD, trying to control the crowds. It was an insult to the everyone celebrating the lunar new year. The parade procession had huge gaps as the cops were trying to let traffic through. At the same time, the cops were shoving grandmas to get them on to a cross walk.

NYPD can shut down Park Row so they can have parking. Yet they can't shutdown the Bowery for 2 hours for a parade. It's a slap in the face to the community.

Cuz the Chinese won't start rioting, burning cars, plundering stores and women.

An ABSOLUTE MESS! I was stuck on Mott Street trying to get onto Canal for 20 minutes! Didn't move an inch while people were pushing me to try to get ahead and people coming from Canal street tried to get onto Mott! It was a complete nightmare. I finally had no choice but to turn back try to exit Mott on the other end! What a NIGHTMARE. Shame on NYPD!
