Video of the Day: NYC Tourism Gets Funny

Last year Bloomberg announced the "first-ever global multimedia communications campaign to promote New York City," with efforts to bring in more tourism through television, outdoor advertising, internet and everything in between.

The mayor is now getting some unsolicited help from some New York comedians. The troupe got together to film their own NYC Tourism ad, which includes a unique explanation of the city's homeless problem. Their version of our history explains that NYC was founded in 1974 "by the friendly Walt Disney Corporation, so if you see any meth addicts or homeless people, don't worry folks, they're just animatronics."

Something you won't learn on NYCVisit.com: New York isn't just about our "cocaine and Zagat-rated sex parties."

  • Methamphetamine goes by many other names including crack, ice, crystal, meth and glass. Due to the ease that crystal meth can be produced, it is readily available and, subsequently, use and abuse are increasing rapidly. .

It beats those taxi ads with Chuck Close telling tourists to bring plenty of film. I haven't purchased film since sometime in the early 90s.

"Hmm, why do I think those people are not born and bred New Yorkers?"

Does it matter? They live here, they aren't tourists.
