- Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a baby in cardiac arrest on West 96th St. in Manhattan, a shooting on Church and Flatbush Aves. in Brooklyn, and a found grenade on East 196th St. and Bainbridge Ave. in the Bronx.
- More hand-sifted material has been transported to Fresh Kills, Staten Island. The material does not contain any human remains and is not located on a site that contains landfill.
- Plans to develop a section of Long Island City into a shiny high-rise complex called Silvercup West appear to have ground to a halt.
- The Prospect Park Zoo has a new resident--a baby kangaroo that's started to make tentative forays out of its mother's pouch; (with very cute video).
- Slice notes some controversy over Di Fara's pizza slices rising in price from $3 to $4 a slice, while the actual slices are only 65-75% of a standard piece.
- The Sign Man of Shea Stadium, who was a fixture at Mets game between 1964 and 1981 best known for his large block-lettered messages to players, died Thursday at the age of 83.
- The Brooklyn Library's searchable database of thousands of photographs from Kings County's past.
- Get ready for tomorrow's Lunar New Year Parade in Chinatown; it starts at Mott and Hester Streets at 1PM. Better Chinatown recommends viewing it from Allen Street between Canal and Grand Streets.
