200802nerds.jpgEVENT: Angels and Kings is hosting a Nerd Nite, described as: "the Discovery Channel with beer." This evening brings zombies to life, sort of, with a presentation on the undead titled "Zombies Are Real: Actual Zombies of the Natural World And Why You Might Be One." Drink, learn, be nerdy.

7pm // Angels & Kings [500 E 11th St] // Free

LECTURE: Come get schooled on "green architecture" tonight at the kick-off event for The Goethe Center's “What Is Green Architecture” lecture series. Tonight they'll host a talk with Berlin-based architect Jürgen Mayer H. and Andres Lepik, curator in the architecture & design department of the MoMA. More info here.

7pm // Goethe-Institut New York [1014 5th Ave] // Free

THEATER: Scheduled to coincide with Black History Month, La MaMa founder and artistic director Ellen Stewart has helped compose the score to Conjur Woman, a haunting folk opera written by the illustrious Beatrice Manley and sung by OBIE winner Sheila Dabney. Accompanied by a cornucopia of instruments including harmonica, washboard, jug, acoustic guitar, bass and percussion, Dabney “uses spells and potions to turn her lover into a tree so that he cannot be sold into slavery. Tragically, even the conjur woman’s powers cannot stop the tree from being chopped down and made into logs.” The Times says that “at its best moments, the production has the incantatory impact of a fever dream.” Ends Sunday. – John Del Signore

7:30pm // La MaMa [74A East 4th St.] // Tickets cost $25.

MUSIC: Tickets are still available for Nada Surf tonight at Music Hall of Williamsburg. This is the first of their two night run at the Brooklyn venue, and they'll likely be debuting some new songs off their upcoming album, Lucky (out February 18th). Opening for them this evening is Frances.

8pm // Music Hall of Williamsburg [66 North Sixth St, Brooklyn] // $20

"Lucky" is on sale at Virgin right now...

Also, This show has been "sold out" for way over a month. I wonder how many tickets Bowery was holding back on this one!
