It's time for the Lunar New Year, which starts February 7th and lasts for 14 days, and this year is the Year of the Rat, 4706. Sure, there are plenty of things to do to celebrate the holiday, but to us, it means one thing -- a new year banquet. We've found a few places that are offering banquets in honor of the Year of the Rat, including variations of traditional Chinese Lunar New Year foods that bring prosperity, happiness and good fortune to all who join together to feast, like dumplings, uncut noodles, whole fish and chicken.
Chinatown Brasserie has a four-course banquet including a special selection of their magnificent dim sum, and suckling pig (which always gets us excited), for $60 per person. 212-533-7000, 380 Lafayette Street, offered February 6th-10th, and the 15-17th.
Our Place Shanghai Tea Garden serves up six courses, including Peking Duck bau (buns). $55.00 per person, 141 East 55th Street between Third and Lexington Aves. (212)753-3900. February 6th through February 12th.
Congee Village is offering set banquets for 10 people that range in price from $368-$618 at both of their locations. 100 Allen Street, (212) 941-1818, and 207 Bowery, (212) 766-2828.
Where will you be pigging out for the Year of the Rat?

I will be celebrating deeper in Chinatown, presumably eating actual rat.
We'll be hitting Chinatown Brasserie tonight. Never been there before.
hey, there is a reason to honor an animal each year! they are sentient beings as well, so enjoy some vegetarian fare instead.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, delicious!
Hey Nick S. good one. too bad it's been used a gazillion times. If you want to be racist, at least be original about it.
anyone have tips for dining in hell's kitchen tonight?
Pacificana in Sunset Park.
I'm not sure if they have a banquet menu, but one look at their regular menu (http://www.sunset-park.com/mall/pacificana/menu.html) and you can make your own banquet.

We were at Pacificana this weekend. The food is quite good there, and is now the family's "go-to" restaurant for family gatherings, superceding anything on Avenue U. in Brooklyn.
re: babyhitler
duly noted.
Wow babyhitler! I didn't think you had one PC bone in your body.
Getting back on topic, Sunset Park is a good place to check out decent Chinese food. I like Lucky Eight on 52nd Street and 8th Ave.
