ART: "Drawing Art and Politics" seems like a fitting event to have on the calendar today. "Spend an evening with New York’s renowned graphic artists Jules Feiffer, David Levine, Stan Mack, and Edward Sorel, as they examine the ways in which complex social and political issues are depicted by artists in today’s media. Jules Feiffer will moderate a discussion that explores the roots of political art and social realism in the context of John Sloan’s early 20th-century illustrations of New Yorkers engaging in routine pastimes and pleasures. Presented in conjunction with John Sloan’s New York." More info here.

6:30pm // Museum of the City of New York [1220 Fifth Ave] // $9

PARTY: It's not just Super Tuesday...it's also Fat Tuesday! We may not be in New Orleans, but that doesn't mean you can't bring the Big Easy spirit out with you tonight. Celebrate Mardi Gras at Town Tavern and be prepared for Can Can dancers, bead contests and, of course, a free Jambalaya buffet! Happy hour specials extended from 6 to 10pm.

6pm // Town Tavern [134 W 3rd St] // Free

200802superfat.jpgAfter doing your duty and voting in the primary, sit back and relax with some beers (how American!). Proof Bar will have 13 televisions tuned in as the results from today's polls come in. There will also be a drink menu which includes Red, White and Blue cocktails.

THEATER: The Hotel Savant theater company, headed by artist John Jahnke, is now presenting a rarely-seen production of Antonin Artaud’s The Cenci. Known for his visually elegant stagecraft, Jahnke has staged the play, based on Shelley’s verse drama and real events, within a complex maze that runs throughout SoHo’s Ohio Theater. The production aims to fulfill Artaud’s vision of “breaking theater’s subjugation to the text”, using a modern theatrical language developed in residency at Robert Wilson’s The Watermill Center. The 1935 play, which ran for just 17 infamous performances when it premiered in Paris, concerns a 1599 Roman scandal involving Beatrice Cenci, the daughter of an affluent yet criminal patriarch, who found her family fortune drained by the Vatican when her father was indicted in a series of felonies. “Rather than give in to their tyrannical, ruinous demands, Cenci publicly announces his intent to destroy his family of his own volition, raping his daughter in the process.” Murder plots and execution follow. – John Del Signore

8pm // Ohio Theater [66 Wooster St] // Call (212) 352-3101 for tickets, which cost $20

MUSIC: Last year around this time we sat in an alley in Austin drinking some Lone Star beer with Pagoda (video here). Tonight they're taking over The Living Room for an acoustic performance. Michael Pitt (who played the Kurt Cobain character in Gus Van Sant's Last Days) leads the band, which is on Thurston Moore's label, Ecstatic Peace. They'll be back at the venue February 19th and March 5th.

11pm // The Living Room [154 Ludlow St] // $5
