A man was fatally run over by a northbound N train yesterday morning. According to the NY Times, no criminal activity is suspected:
A man who said he was a witness, Karriem Torres, said the victim had been running to catch the train and climbed between two cars. He slipped under the train as it began to move and he screamed, Mr. Torres said, adding that by the time the train stopped, the man had been crushed.Yikes.
A year and a half ago, a man tried to board a train by climbing over the gates between the first and second cars of a C train, only to become stuck between the platform and train and getting dragged. Back then, we noticed that the MTA's safety suggestions say, "Boarding between subway cars may seem like a time-saver, but it is highly dangerous."

I seriously don't understand- how do you climb between 2 cars? And the MTA's site doesn't really explain either...?
Darwin award.
the mta will probably be sued because they made it too easy for him to be able to attempt it.
nivek,
I second the nomination.
Donner - you don't.
In all seriousness: victim at fault here. May a big "Duh!" reach up to the heavens.
brilliant!
you can add this to the same list of safety suggestions that tells you not to use a hair dryer in the bathtub
i've entered irt trains that way before but not bmt or ind trains because they don't all have doors that open.
these guys are stupid though, there are plenty of handles to grab onto. you can see one in the picture.
Only a jackass would try to enter the cars that way. You're just asking to be runover...
In the 1950's we rode between the cars going to and from High School on Catherine Street,We surely
had someone watching over us or were just plain lucky. That was of course in the dark dreary old
wicker seated subway cars.

Paging Mr. Zodak...
i would say it's a little bit of both, wwmichael.
a little from column a and a little from column B.
yikes is right. the guy screamed.
who thinks to board a subway car between trains? and is it really a "time saver"?
all of you are obviously not from nyc...
back in the days, the conductor stood between cars, the train shown its not possible,
this was on the old CC and KK cars, riding between cars was common on the redbirds, letter lines etc. handles, that chain thing opened up, foothoplds etc.
E's & F's not really...the design and gaps didnt allow safe standing room

We should unite to form a Ghost Subway Rider memorial so we never forget our fallen comrade and the dangers of riding the subway.
Yay ihateallbrokers for reinstating the "I'm the better New Yorker" pissing contest woohoo
I am 7 decades here , born in NYC before WW2.
So it's not so obvious we are all not New YORKers.
This could be a Darwin top ten... Award without question
