Grand Theft Auto Hits Williamsburg

200802gta.jpgThe long delayed Grand Theft Auto IV is finally coming out soon, and it seems the marketing campaign has come off the screen and into the 3rd dimension. Where best to bring the faux Liberty City (based on New York) than to the streets than Williamsburg. Kotaku spotted a Wanted poster on the corner of Lorimer and Grand suggesting one Niko Bellic be shot on sight.

Bellic, the game's main character, is "wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting at a nightclub in the Hove Beach area of Broker." Perhaps this particular piece of the viral marketing campaign should be targeted towards the Meatpacking District?

Here's to hoping no one in real life Williamsburg resembles that guy!

the only crimes worth noting in wburg are hipsters stealing black skinny pants. Why doesn't gothamist just change their name to hipster news? it would bring in more advertising i bet, especially from rockstar.

i was thinking the same thing.

what a sexy hoodlum....

when are they going to open an urban outfitters over there?

i can't wait for this game regardless of the poor viral marketing choices.

"Hove Beach" might be Howard Beach.

For the record I took this picture, and I even tagged it Gothamist.

Hove Beach in Broken, is supposed to be Brighton Beach in Brooklyn. Thats where all the wannabe Russian Ganstas live. They don't live in Howard Beach, thats for sure!
