Missing Since 9/11, Woman Now Declared Dead

2008_02_dr.jpgAn appeals court ruled that a doctor who had been missing before September 11, 2001 died during the World Trade Center attacks. The family of Dr. Sneha Anne Philip, last seen at Century 21 on September 10, had in courts for years trying to do so.

Previously, a court-appointed guardian implied the 31-year-old doctor led a dangerous lifestyle, because she, per the Post, "frequented bars (including several bars that cater to women customers) and spent the night with individuals she met there [who] tended to be strangers." The guardian, who was appointed during a court case about Philip's estate, also referred to a police report that suggested she "[abused] drugs and alcohol" and "[conducted] bisexual acts." Police investigators had theorized Philip was murdered by someone she picked up.

However, after the surveillance video from Century 21, Philip was never seen from, nor were her credit cards used. Her husband testified that on nights she stayed out (and he wasn't happy about those nights), she would come back to their Battery Park City apartment in the morning. And her family said that since she was a doctor, she could have been helping people at the WTC.

The Appellate Court decision called the rumors about extramarital affairs hearsay and the decision read, "The evidence shows it to be highly probable that she died that morning and at that site, whereas only the rankest speculation leads to any other conclusion."

Philip's name had been removed from the September 11 missing list, and her family now hopes she'll be added to the list of victims. It's unclear if her family will get money from the Victim's Compensation Fund, as it's closed.

"bisexual acts"

What does that have to do with anything? Talk about slandering the dead. Its probable that she died as a result of the attack, but who the hell knows? Anything could have happened.

Dick Wolf on line two...

was her DNA never found in the towers? its prob in the Deutsche building...

Finally.

"Sneha’s indiscretions appear to have reached a low point in the month prior to her disappearance. A police report says that her brother John walked in on her and his girlfriend—now the mother of his son—having sex."

Nice!

Considering the number of fraud cases that were uncovered around 9/11 I don't think the judge should have said "The evidence shows it to be highly probable that she died that morning and at that site, whereas only the rankest speculation leads to any other conclusion." Are there any other examples of random civilians being killed on 9/11 i.e. not people that worked in or next to the WTC, were not on the planes, and were not police, fire, or EMT?

Court-appointed guardian or devil's advocate? What the hell?

EastRiver, I heard rumors about a few homeless people who supposedly disappeared on 9/11 and were never accounted for by anyone, but just rumors.

If by some slim chance someone really did kill this women the night before 9/11, then that person is the luckiest murderer ever.

I thought the luckiest murderer ever was OJ.

Bars that cater to women customers ... I must be getting senile (what was I saying?) as it took quite a while for the meaning of that to sink in :)

She did live nearby and was a doctor. Seems pretty likely.

she's quite striking, I can see a woman being attracted to her.
how do you "conduct" bisexual acts?
I'm glad the appellate court made the right decision.

This is DUMB!
So parting is now suicidal?...like most people between 20 and 35 are not...?

Because Ron could not produce a 9/11 death certificate, the Compensation Fund denied his claim. Based on Sneha’s age and potential earnings, the claim would have been worth about $3 million to $4 million, according to an attorney who represented numerous other families who sought compensation.

She was last seen Sept. 10. No direct evidence to suggest she was killed in the 9/11 attacks, and the circumstantial evidence is very thin.
