Rudy Giuliani's poor showing in the presidential campaign has plenty of people giving their opinions on why it all went wrong.
Bronx residents gave the NY Times an earful about the former mayor ("I was waiting for this moment — he stinks...Giuliani was always for himself, never for the people.") while the Daily News reported on the "hick" comments of Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who said, "The New York lifestyle hasn't gone over [in] some places. It seemed like the more people got acquainted with him, the less they liked him."
In fact, Grassley's comments made people quasi-defend Giuliani; former Mayor Ed Koch said, "Rudy did not project New York. He projected his own personality, which was more than insensitive, it was ruthless. New Yorkers are pussycats. We're not ruthless. Most of the children from [Iowa] come here to live because of the freedom and anonymity."
But the best comment comes from Guy Molinari, co-chair of Rudy's NYC committee; he told the Staten Island Advance:
"It was the damn strategy that they adopted. I mean, [that] was the dumbest thing that I ever saw," said Molinari of the decision to largely forgo campaigning in the early-voting states in favor of the later, delegate-rich ones. And some are suggesting that Giuliani's third wife Judith Nathan may have played a role in Rudy's 2008 campaign demise and that Bernard Kerik will now take a plea. We're wondering if Judi will stay with Rudy."It was a very, very bad political decision. I mean, he was ruined before he started," the former borough president fulminated.

It aint over yet. My fear is that McCain will win the nomination and ask Rudy to be his vice prez. Like a Trojan Horse, the so called moderate would sneak in the rabid fascist. I have no idea if this is actually likely, but the idea of Rudy being gone for good is too good to be true.
Seriously, you people need to let it go. It's over. He's not running for VP. He did dismally in the primaries and nobody would want that baggage on the ticket. And it's not like McCain is looking to win New York.
I had the same nightmare, SP. It's unlikely but not a crazy thought, either. The neocons and, of course, our fiends from FNC, all love Rudy. The Saturday business block has been like a Rudy campaign team building retreat for a while.
Rudy could fill the Cheney role as neocon facilitator and also be the detail man Dick is for W.
It's unlikely that the GOP would win NY. But with Rudy as VP, they might have to make an effort to take it.
Rudy's already set to make a bucket o' duckats when his boy Mukasey sends some of those Border Security contracts his way. Who needs a Presidency?
MJG, what color is the sky is your world? Rudy Giuliani may be many things but he is no neocon. Perhaps you don't really know what that word means.
Rudy Giuliani may be many things but he is no neocon.
With Norman Podhoretz as his chief foreign policy advisor during the campaign, I would say "neocon facilitator" is a fairly accurate description for Giuliani. And with the demise of his Presidential aspirations, perhaps we witness the final death knell of the neocon movement...?
Jen, enough with the Giuliani posts?!?!?!....This stale calzone has been in the garbage for two days now....Oh hell, let's keep kicking this 9/11 fugayzee while he's down.
No, keep kicking him while he's down.
Let's see how he likes it.
LRLB, can I get in line, too?
Those of you who think this is over, be careful. I hope like hell you're right, but...
VP? No way. Attorney General in a McCain administration... Jees, just think about that for a second... makes me want to vote for Hillary twice.
How about a made-for-tv movie? We can have the fat guy from the Sopranos portray his dad as he robs a milkman on E 96 st. Certainly Rudy would be flattered by yet more scrutiny into his personal life..or not?
Rudy: The Untold Story...stay tuned
Who would play his character?
I'm thinking he kinda looks like the guy from Raiders of the Lost Ark that burned his hand grabbing the medallion.
Actually, I recall that character as looking too cherubic. Let's face it - there's just no one ugly enough to play Rudy, except if he were to be depicted as a cartoon character, in which case the perfect fit would be Montgomery Burns...
Montgomery Burns...EXCELLENT. Mwahahaha.
Montgomery Burns...EXCELLENT! Mwahahaha.
You are playing right into what Rudy wants: the notion that it wasn't HIM who lost, but his strategy. This egomaniac was so concerned with his image, that he set up from the beginning that his inevitable loss was the result of a faulty strategy rather than a faulty candidate. Giuliani had no chance in the early states, so wouldn't foregoing campaigning in those states in fact be a good strategy, as such efforts would be futile?
Furthermore, let's not forget that Rudy DID campaign in these states; in fact, he spent more money and time in New Hampshire than anyone but Romney, so this notion of the "Florida strategy" is simply nonsense. This maniac never should have been on the same stage as the other candidates and it is simply ignorant and naive to relieve him of this reality by blaming his strategy rather than the fact that he is a complete joke. The more people got to know him, the more they disliked him... something all New Yorkers can well understand.
Egan, out!
Here's a collection of all the late night Rudy jokes:

I'll throw in one of my own:
To show that he is a prolific pandering opportunist, Rudy will even exploit his own disaster for financial gain.
(Silence) Tough crowd.
Joe Biden has the funniest line about Rudy's campaign. He said, "Every time Rudy Giuliani opens his mouth three things come out: a noun, a verb and 9/11."
JCB: And many people credit that line with being the beginning of the end for Rudy.
@EastRiver:
You disagree with Rudes being a neocon, but do you have to throw in an insult?
Seen that from your comments often--you seem like a pretty angry dude.
Great news! Goodbye Rudy tooty and his Judy Rudy tooty. Back to the zillions of dollars to make once
again post 9-11 on consultations.
