John Edwards will drop out of the presidential primary race. The Caucus finds symmetry in the announcement, since Edwards will give "a speech this afternoon at the same place where he began this campaign — in New Orleans." Which now means the path is cleared for a full-tilt boogie Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama fight for delegates and the nomination. We also expect some wooing from Clinton and Obama for Edwards' delegates.
Clinton won the Florida's Democratic primary. Even though the primary doesn't really count since no delegates were awarded (in protest to Florida moving the primary up; candidates had agreed not to campaign there), Clinton held what looked like an elaborate celebration and gave a speech, which many cable news outlets carried while waiting for Florida's Republican primary returns. Some comments from, um, commentators via Politico's Ben Smith:
It "has the look of an event," Chris Matthews sniffed on MSNBC of the Florida rally.
"It's our job to say she's doing that because she does want that picture," said Campbell Brown, as CNN showed the picture of the rally.
"It is a little weird to have a victory celebration going on in a state where you never campaigned," said Brit Hume on Fox.
Ha! But that's not as funny or interesting as some of the comments Harlem residents
gave the NY Times about the Bill Clinton-Obama scuffle. Many defended the former president's action, recognizing he's fighting for his wife and that attacks are part of poltiics. One even suggested Obama seemed to be "nice white middle-class guy" so far.
With Edwards bowing out, does that change who you'll vote for in the primary?
No it doesn't change who I'm voting for. I am still voting for ABC - Anybody But Clinton
ditto, ABC
sure does--i'm not sold on neither obama nor clinton.
Anyone But Republican. I'll vote for either of those nitwits over a Republican.
I think the Weehawken Dueling Grounds are still there if the two need a venue for a duel.
did i miss something? why do people think obama sucks? seriously. i'm surprised.
that's a shame, the only person I'd really vote for drops out.
Maybe it's just me but I think Obama and Clinton are more or less the same on the issues. =/
This is a shame. I really like Edwards. I was pretty keen on his lobbying reform ideas. (I'm not a fan of lobbyists). I kind of wanted to see him at least pair up with someone. It'd be pretty rad if he paired up with Obama, imo.
Anyway, he'll be missed, he and his crazy perfect hair.
If he's smart, he'll withhold his endorsement as long as possible to try to force some of his economic reform ideas into the next admin.
Obama and Hillary are pretty similar. Their main similarity is that they're not George W. Bush and they'll start to clean up W's mess.
Unfortunately, the two GOP leading candidates are clearly planning to continue governing like Bush has.
I think that gives us a clear choice. Both Dems are better than both GOP candidates.
they're similar? i was under the impression that hillary was pro-iraq war & obama was anti-iraq war. am i wrong?
Any self-respecting politician would wait until Feb 4 when the last polls are out before making his decision. But seriously, my bet would go to Obama - now who in their right mind would want to be a bag boy for the Clintons...?
Hillary brings the experience and the evil. Obama brings the freshness and the cluelessness. What a choice! If John McCain wasnt 167 years old, maybe I'd consider him.
hillary did vote to sanction the war in iraq, but did so because she was told (as we all were initially), the country had wmd.
under the true circumstances, she acknowledges she never would have voted as such and is very much in favor of ending the war. both she and obama have very similar exit strategies.
as a presidential candidate she is certainly not pro-iraq war.
I wonder if I need to get used to saying President McCain.
Zodak, I don't know about the Iraq war but Obama supports the expansion of armed forces whereas Clinton rather not have large one and pull the military out of other countries like Japan.
I wouldn't mind if either of them is elected. They're pretty much the same.
It's like what Ed Koch said, "if you agree with 8 out of 12 of my issues, vote for me. If you agree with all of them. Go see a therapist."

White ladies vs black men. Of course the black guys will bitchslap the shit out of them.
Zodak, they're similar because if either had been president in 2003 they wouldn't have pushed us into a war in Iraq. There wouldn't have been a vote to take.
So it's being reported that Edwards will not endorse either Clinton or Obama. Sounds like a sore loser to me. "If I can't win, I don't care who does."
I have yet to hear a logically sound reason so many people seem to hate Hillary. She and Obama are pretty much the same, except with Clinton there's baggage, and with Obama there's naivete. Neither of the two, nor any Republicans, will "unite" the country the way Obama is promising to. "The people" don't vote on legislation, anyway. Does anyone think Obama will have better luck influencing the minds of senators and congress people than Clinton? I would argue that's where Clinton's experience comes in. That, and that she understands foreign policy.
Actually, it sounds like he's waiting for a better time to endorse one of them.
He might give an endorsement before a key primary, or even try to put the nominee over the top at the convention and earn a favor.
I think it's the baggage that I can't take. Besides the fact of a Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton dynasty. What are we, Great Britain?
The White House needs to be aired out and fumigated.
A shame. The man actually has substance.
