Construction Worker Dead, Another Injured at Brooklyn Building

Today's high winds may be to blame for a construction worker's death in Fort Greene. Around 10AM, the FDNY tells WNBC that a "construction worker had been working on the 13th floor when are large gust of wind picked up the scaffold he was standing on and blew him over the edge and on to a setback at street level."

The other worker, who was knocked from the 13th floor scaffolding to the 10th floor, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Department of Buildings said the workers had been doing stucco work and that the agency is investigating whether the scaffolding was properly secured - wind gusts were around 35MPH in the morning.

The building under construction is at 525 Clinton Avenue. Per Brownstoner's eyewitness, it seemed that "the high winds created a wind-tunnel effect that allegedly blew him through the glass window and to his death." Brownstoner finds it surprising, "given our report last summer that the development was using a new, unusually thick (four inches) type of glass called Visionwall."
