Rudy Giuliani's Showdown with the Sunshine State

2008_01_rudygfla.jpg

Today, the Republican presidential hopefuls are vying to win the Florida primary (the Democrats aren't allowing Florida delegates to count at the convention, because Florida moved its primary up). Polls close in two hours, and many believe that the state will be contested between John McCain and Mitt Romney. Our former mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has spent much time in Florida, instead of campaigning in South Carolina, Iowa or New Hampshire (though he did spend a substantial amount of time in NH), seems like he may be in third place or even fourth, if Mike Huckabee does well.

Some political strategists think Giuliani should pull out of the race "within hours in order to preserve his political ties and business relationships" (there's a debate tomorrow, and other candidates could be pissed if a dead-in-the-water Giuliani takes up time). Also, some think it's better for "America's Mayor" not to face an embarrassing New York primary finish. [America's Mayor mix below]

Also a sign is how Giuliani has not dominated the Republican talk; who ever though he'd be described as "subdued"? However, Giuliani said yesterday that business, like the debate, will carry on for his campaign, telling reporters on Monday, "I think the winner of Florida will win the nomination, and we're going to win Florida." Maybe he's really thinking that actor Jon Voight's endorsement will put him over the edge!

Whatever he decides to leave the race, whenever that may be, Giuliani's actions are confusing - yesterday he gave reporters autographed souvenir baseballs, which many suspect are parting gifts.

Showdown with or showdown in the Sunshine State?

Giving away a little bit of Rudy's personality there, aint ya Jenny?

Goodbye Mr. 9/11, and good riddance.

You think the guy on the left is the one who goosed him?

Rested. Testy. Done.

'He gave reporters autographed souvenir baseballs, which were thrown at each reporters head. Radar has Rudy's fastball at 91mph, but many suspect the english he puts on the ball is due to the savage, inhuman scales on his palms. Many believe Giuliani is a lizard man, as seen in the popular made for tv miniseries 'V', and will pull of his skin live on Fox News after losing Florida. He is also expected to devour the 6 remaining homeless people in Manhattan that have not yet been removed.'

emilydickinson - HA!

And bxbrian, I feel like Giuliani would try to wrestle Florida the state like an alligator if he could.

So Long Giuliani!
Giuliani loves to be hated and demonized, b/c in his mind that means he's doing something right.

But you know what keeps a guy like this up at night? What he fears more than anything else in the world?

Irrelevance.

Welcome to your worst nightmare you disgusting bastard.

Gothamist-Thanks again for posting the best candidate photos!

@Jen Chung:

Fantastic mental image.

The worst presidential campaign in my lifetime. What will be fascinating is seeing who he blames for the whole debacle. You know, being the control freak that he is, that he made every single decision of any import. Yet he will likely blame everybody in sight.

What a piece of shit with (bad) hair and (bad) teeth.

Heh. Well, the guy on the right's hands are visible, so by process of elimination, you must be right!

rudy has freak-brows. srsly, his eyebrows scare the hell out of me.

The worst campaign was Thompson. Rudy's close.

The interesting thing is how his disaster of a campaign will affect his business after he drops out. Will people pay for his ''expertise'' after this debacle?

Maybe he can be part of a McCain admin...maybe not.

They should take one of those forks and stick it in Rudy. He's done.

Shamelessly profiting from his disaster:

Do you think I can give speeches on how to run a surefire failure of a presidential campaign?

If Rudy doesn't win FL, his new campaign slogan is "Voters: Submit, or I will Choke The Terrorist Out of Each and Every One of You."

Huckabee was a virtual no-show in Florida and he's only slightly behind Giuliani right now - talk about sweet comeuppance. Hopefully, he will decide to stick around until next Tuesday and be totally humiliated when his own former constituency turns it's back on him.

I have this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that even if he drops out, he'll try to worm his way close to the front-runner so he can get tapped for a VP role.

Yeah, I had the same concern but can you really imagine Rudy as someone's bytch? And despite the pleasantries exhanged between the two, sources tell me that Mccain really can't stand Giuliani - and you could often tell by his body language during the debates. But, that IS a disturbing scenario to contemplate, which would have Rudy literally a heartbeat away from the Presidency...

Go Huckabee!! Not that I like his candidacy, but seeing the Ghouliani come in 4th is a total bliss! I am ashame to say that I actually wasted my vote on the 9/11 whore in my naive younger days.

I am so glad the aura of the infallible "American Mayor" is forever demolished as the rest of the country see how cruel, arrogant, immoral and ineffective Rudy really is. How can you support someone whom even his kids cannot stand, ran around with his mistress using tax payer funds, best friend with criminal cronies like Kerik, take credit for the achievements of others (crime reduction by Bratton and Maple), and worse of all, using 9/11 for his own personal and political gains. I really hope this slimy fear monger just go away forever.

How long do we give this marriage now that Judy doesn't have a star to attach herself to?!?
