Video of the Day: Highway to the Danger Zone

Video is finally surfacing from this past Saturday's Idiotarod. While the event did gain some enemies this weekend (mostly because not everyone cleaned up after themselves), there was one shining beacon, a team that stuck to the spirit of Idiotarod: Team Danger Zone. If ever a costumed conglomerate of people pushing a shopping cart were to have groupies, it would be this one. Here they are showing off their cart, and their guns:

There's more video from haters, spectators and competitors on YouTube, and our favorite after the jump...

Ok ok, i'll admit that dude was awesome! He didn't seem like a hipster punk at all, even though he looked like one.

That part where they fire up the afterburners is so boss.

Did they bribe one of the race officials with a vibrator? Smart!

count me in as 1 of their groupies. i loved that movie! loved it. & not in an ironic/snarky way either. hopefully they will serve as an example for next year's participants.

yeah, I'll admit it. When they started rocking Danger Zone I got goose bumps.

these guys really did epitomize the best parts of the idiotarod. But i'd agree with the other commenters who've noted that overall, the race seems to get messier, angrier, and more out of control every year.

i think COBRA did a decent job of keeping things organized as best they could, and the shopping cart garbage truck at the end was a great idea, but one big mistake was at the gowanus checkpoint, having a challenge that involved stealing flags from other teams. it was a recipe for disaster, and resulted in a lot of hostility, and in some cases, actual violence between teams. definitely the ugliest thing i've seen in the two races i've run.

i am curious to see if COBRA can get away with this next year. Fun as it is for the participants, people along the race route have a very legitimate gripe about the noise, mess, litter, traffic obstruction, and property damage. like all good things, the idiotarod may be at an end.

Hey thats Steph in the background!

it's true that i am in the background. i get really excited when Commander Albert takes his shirt off.
