Jersey City Mailman Made Special Deliveries

potmailman.jpgTwo Jersey City mail carriers were arrested this week for selling marijuana when they weren't delivering most of the mail along their routes. 47-year-old Hector Pacheco Sr. and 37-year-old Al Spencer were arrested Friday afternoon with a third man as police raided a home and finding Pacheco wearing his postal uniform while grinding up marijuana to be deposited in bags that would be sold for $20. Cops seized 4 and half ounces of weed and Pacheco Sr.'s letter carrier bag, which still contained undelivered mail.

Spencer was arrested for possession of marijuana as he was caught, also in his uniform, smoking a blunt. A third man was arrested with the two mailmen--Hector Pacheco Jr. It's nice when fathers and sons can spend time together and bond over a shared interest. Police estimate that the marijuana could have been sold on the street for $840. Only Pacheco Sr. was charged with possession with intent to sell near public property.

New York state legislators discussed legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes this past summer. New Jersey legislators brought up a similar idea in 2006. We're not exactly holding our breath for either of those things to pass.
