On Your Marks! Get Set! Idiotarod!

Are you planning on joining the masses for Idiotarod this year? The race begins at noon this Saturday, and instead of having one starting point as in previous years...there are four! The pimped out shopping carts will be taking off from Long Island City, DUMBO, Williamsburg and Greenpoint. If you don't want to be a spectator, you can register here.

To keep track of the madness we'd love a few teams to volunteer their documentation of the jaunt. Contact us at tips (a) gothamist dot com if you're interested and we'll give you a better idea of what we're looking for.

Actually, last year my team met up in Bed Sty before heading to Greenpoint. We walked for about 20 minutes to the train in drag with our cart. There were plenty of bewildered reactions, many of the photos are on flickr.

The year before when it started in Fort Greene, many people schelped from BedSty over to the park with the same results.

The bag lady of my neighborhood does this every day. She doesn't wear a pirate's outfit, but she reeks of dog urine and Wild Irish Rose.

Kevin is right. They should try it in another nabe. In Ridgewood good chance they'll wander into Bed-Stuy. They won't make it out alive.

So basically I'm not impressed.

I'd really like it if they'd go thru Ridgewood, Maspeth, Elmhurst and Corona just to see the bewildered reactions there.
