Lawrence Tynes Makes Appearance on Letterman

Before getting back to his grueling practice schedule* today, Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes stopped in to the Late Show last night. David Letterman and Tynes chat about his family and when he learned to kick (as a senior in high school). Tynes, the 29-year-old father of twins, who missed two 4th quarter field goals in the NFC Championship before kicking the game winner in overtime, was not able to escape ribbing from Letterman, "Everybody I know had the same reaction after the second missed kick in the 4th quarter, 'Please don't send him in again! For the love of God! If there's an ounce of mercy in your soul! Don't send him in!!'"

Tynes, who seemed rather cool under pressure, was relatively light on his toes for someone who isn't typically in front of the camera. Letterman asked what coach Tom Coughlin said to Tynes after the his first miss in the 4th quarter. Tynes responded, "You know, I never hear what he's saying." After his second miss with time expiring, Tynes said he was thinking, "What's it going to be like to live in Green Bay. I'm thinking, 'How am I going to get back on the charter plane?'"

*Tynes jokes that practice for him typically involves meetings in the morning (and not paying attention), 3 hours of dead time for him and punter Jeff Feagles, a lot of Internet, which includes trip planning for the Super Bowl.

Doesn't Boston have any Letterman-like programs up there?

    Oh, that's right, it's Boston.

(just bustin' ya, pal, you know we love ya)

For the record, I do recall seeing Brady on there once or twice, but then again he is in NYC a lot.

  • For the record, we haven't seen any Pats on Letterman.

Wait, isn't he always in front of the camera? And a live audience of thousands?

Coughlin should put the entire team on curfew.

They're human beings, and they're entitled to enjoy some of their success. It doesn't mean they won't be completely focused on Feb. 3rd.

As long as no one gaurantees a win, I don't care they do.

I'm disappointed and nervous the way this team has gone hollywood in the last few days. Osi was trash talking about the pats' left tackle and I saw Antonio Pierce on TV last night basically predict and Giants win and happy Giants fans after the Superbowl. Then you got other guys sitting courtside at Knicks games and ringing the opening bell at the NYSE.

They need to remember that the celebration comes AFTER the last game AFTER you win it. They don't seem very focused right now.

It was a pretty funny bit. Best was when Letterman is talking over Coughlin screaming at Tynes, saying "Attaboy, we'll get 'em next time."

Give Tynes credit. The snap on the second attempt was awful, it took Feagles forever to get the ball down, his timing was shot... and he's never said a word about any of that.
