Last Night's Action: Shaking Things Up

• Rangers 4 Atlanta 0: Tom Renney shook up the lines and the lineup and the Rangers responded. Playing the opening game in their consecutive home game tilt with the Thrashers, New York set the tone early and played great defense allowing only 14 shots.

  Sean Avery, placed on the top line with Gomez and Jagr got things started with a goal at 12:12 of the first period. Brandon Dubinsky scored a few minutes later and the Rangers never looked back. Jaromir Jagr capped the scoring in the third period with some hard work and a nice assist from Martin Straka who handed Jagr a replacement stick after he broke his original one.

• Islanders 6 Carolina 3: It’s bad enough when you give up one shorthanded goal, but three is a new level of futility. That’s what Carolina reached Tuesday as they gave up three shorthanded goals in the first two periods of the Islanders’ rout. Mike Sillinger had two goals and Wade Dubielewicz made an astounding 44 saves.
• Devils 7 Philadelphia 3: This was a wild one with two big fights, countless other small scraps and a lot of goals. The Devils fell behind 2-1, but the Flyers kept taking penalties and the Devils kept making them pay. Five-straight power-play goals turned the game into a rout.
• Sacramento 128 Nets 94: Ron Artest has 27 for the Kings who won easily over the Nets. Nets coach Lawrence Frank said his team gave a "pathetic performance."
