WNBC's Jay DeDapper Attacked in De West Village!

2008_01_dedapper.jpgOur favorite bespectacled WNBC political reporter was beaten and robbed in the West Village last night! Naturally, WNBC has the scoop. Apparently Jay DeDapper, who had finished reporting on the Democratic debate for the 11PM newscast, stopped at a pizzeria on his way home.

After he left the restaurant, three people jumped him, hitting him on the head and kicking him, according to authorities.

DeDapper fought back, and the attackers eventually fled. The attackers didn't have any weapons, police said.

DeDapper was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he was treated and released.

It's unclear where the attack took place, but the police arrested two teens, 18-year-old Raul Ramirez of Forest Hills and 17-year-old Francisco Gonzalez of Manhattan (the third attacker is at large).

Two weeks ago, a transit worker was jumped and stabbed by muggers; he defended himself, but the ensuing melee left a bystander dead.

I've spoken on the phone with DeDapper a few times and he always seemed like a nice guy. I hope he's well.

Jay DeScrapper!

Aw, WTF? Jay DeDapper WNBC is one of the best on-the-street guys going for it in NYC these days! More scoops and better coverage than any other local investigative reporter.

Get better Jay, I'm clued in on more stories from you than almost anyone!

wasn't he with WABC before?

DeDapper is a funny name.

Still sucks that he got mugged though.

Is it me or is there alot more street crime going on? Or is it that more of it is getting reported? Or is it that it's happening to more white folks?

I blame it on the advent of the internet blogs.
I can't wait for the police blotter in my free weekly to read about street level crime, I want it now.

"Raul Ramirez, 18, of Forest Hills, and Francisco Gonzalez, 17, of Manhattan, were charged with attempted robbery and assault."

Being a "Sanctuary City" brings the multicultural fun!

Not sure about more crime, but certainly more coverage. JD has his feb sweeps special now!

Speaking of coverage did anyone see this in the NY POST Police Blotter yesterday, or anywhere else? Talk about buried. The tease... cocaine, urine, feces and toddlers locked in a room with starving pitbulls. Learn me more Gothamist.

January 21, 2008 -- Manhattan

Cops made a shocking discovery during a drug bust in a Lower East Side apartment - two toddlers locked in a room with a pair of starving pit bulls.

Authorities yesterday said the children - a 2-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy - were found after three people were busted for cocaine possession at the home.

Valerie Thomas, 47, Keith Thomas, 41, and Lashika Thomas, 21, were arrested Jan. 14 after police executed a search warrant at their apartment on Madison Street and found one Ziploc bag of cocaine and two crack pipes, officials said.

The cops then discovered the kids and the dogs locked in one of the rooms, they said. Urine and feces covered the floors throughout the apartment.

The suspects, whose relationship was unclear, were charged with narcotics possession, child endangerment and torturing and injuring animals. The Administration for Children's Services removed the kids. The fate of the dogs was not clear.

@2: Jay DeScrapper. That made me shoot bloody mary out of my nose!

it prob happened in or around west 4th street and christopher street. the west village has these wanna-a-be thugs that run around looking for trouble in this area.

nothing new. the cops know it exists and do nothing.

@this charming man: Jay DeScrapper is brilliant-- I spent ten minutes trying to think up a punny title for this post and couldn't come up with squat!

Poor guy, but I didn't know he was gay?
