200801marla.jpgWe had a chance to catch Marla Hansen (pictured) last year, and the Brooklynite silenced the room with her hushed compositions. The folksterista has played with the likes of Jay-Z, Kanye West and Sufjan Stevens. Join her and her viola tonight at Union Hall.

THEATER: The Metropolitan Playhouse on East Fourth Street is hosting their third annual festival celebrating the works of a single American author; this year it’s “the foremost explorer of American morality and wickedness,” Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthornucopia consists of seven different programs, or “gables” by various guest artists. Tonight’s performances are Rappacini's Daughter and The Future Mrs. Bullfrog, both adapted by Robert Kornfeld: “The Poe-like horror story of a fixated father and the daughter he keeps in his secret garden is paired with a whimsical tale of New England newlyweds.” Also on tonight’s bill is The House of Celestial Experiments, in which “an old woman, a servant, and a devilish boy clash and clash again, confined to a tiny stage, exchanging roles and changing identities in multiple variations of a scene that lead to a cacophonous, climactic finale.” More info here. – John Del Signore

7pm // Metropolitan Playhouse [220 East Fourth St.] // Tickets cost $18 and my be reserved by calling (212) 995-5302.
